The Farm

The Windy Willow Farm name came from the Willow trees on the property from Dale's grandfather's farm that were planted by Dale's father. The farm is now in its 3rd generation and with God's Will, our children will continue the tradition.

We are passionate about our farm.  Our cattle herd is primarily Red Angus and a Limosin bull. The cows are in the pasture year round and are fed hay during the winter. Depending on the winter weather conditions, we may feed some grain to help boost milk production, but that is truly limited. We find hay, the ability to roam and graze the pasture is far superior to the conventional raising methods of pouring on the corn/grain. It takes us longer to raise a cow to a good weight but knowing how that cow lived and that it ate what it was created to eat, is well worth the time and effort

We also raise lamb and goats.

In 2011 we were awarded the Calvert County Sustainable Meat Producer of the Year award. What an honor it was!

Below are some links that you can review on grass-fed practices. We know that heavy marbling is un-necessary for flavor - the raising practices are what are important!

Studies now say that over 70% of the antibiotics used are on farm animals!  The use of antibiotics started:

“back in the 1940s, farmers started using them to cure sick animals. Then researchers accidentally discovered that the drugs can work other miracles, too. If you feed them to pigs and chickens and cattle, they make the animals grow faster. Scientists still don't really know why, although they have theories. In any case, America's drug and meat companies have convinced farmers that you have to feed antibiotics to your animals almost every day if you're going to compete in this age of factory farming.”  (From http://www.pmac.net/AM/on_the_farm.html)
